How Much of Your Income Goes Toward Premiums in 2026?

The Advance Premium Tax Credit (APTC) caps what you pay for the benchmark Silver plan at a set percentage of household income. The enhanced subsidies in place from 2021 through 2025 expired at the end of 2025, so the 2026 percentages are higher in every income band and the 400% FPL “subsidy cliff” is back — households above that line get no premium tax credit.

Example: a household at 250% FPL pays about 8.44% of income for the benchmark Silver plan in 2026, up from 4% in 2025. If your income lands near 400% FPL, an HSA or traditional IRA contribution lowers your modified adjusted gross income and may keep you subsidy-eligible — talk to us before you enroll.
